His long-tem comic partner, Richard Herring, was in the same revue group. The duo had a succession of BBC radio comedy shows that led to TV shows: Fist of Fun in 1995-6, and This Morning with Richard Not Judy in 1998-9. In 2000, he started work on the controversial show, Jerry Springer:The Opera. After a West-end run of several years, it was shown on BBC2 - before it was aired it received the largest number of complaints ever, mainly from Christian groups. Lee addressed this religious hatred in his 2005 set, 90s Comedian. His material references religious censorship and free speech and is characterised by satire and it's self-referential nature - the 'art' of comedy is showcased as he manipulates the audience to keep them out of their comfort zone.
